Tips for incoming students

1. Join the various email listservs for Black graduate student and minority student organizations . A lot of great information about events is posted to these email listservs. Click on the links below to use the Stanford Mailing list tool to subscribe.

2. Join the GroupMe with local Black graduate students, post docs, and professionals in the area (email the SBBO president to add your phone number to this group).

3. Check out the Diversity Center of Representation and Empowerment (D-CORE) in Lane Library. 

4. Get to know professors at Stanford and gain new mentors through the Solidarity, Leadership, Inclusion, Diversity Mentorship Program (SOLID)

5. Check out the Hume Center for Writing for tips to improve your written works. 

6. Use Stanford University Explore Courses to find courses to take. 

7. Take BIOS 301: Graduate Environment of Support during autumn quarter to learn tips about adapting to graduate life at Stanford. The course includes discussions with faculty, advanced graduate students, campus resource people, and the dean's office about the psychosocial, financial, and career-related aspects of Stanford graduate school  and how these topics relate to diversity, resources, policies, and procedures.
